Do you prefer to work alone or in a team?
Did you know? This is probably the most common question asked during interviews. Many people think, stating that they are individual workers puts them in a better light. That is because they are obviously showing signs of being a great leader and an authoritative figure. The point isn’t if these people get a job or not. The important thing here is to note that real leaders don’t have this opinion.
In fact, genuine leaders or what is known as ‘authentic leadership’ is all about working in a team. Since teamwork can boost performances and provide greater outcomes. There is a reason why some people say that a group has a better chance of moving mountains. Do you want to know why?
Here is a short list of reasons that help to prove our case:
1. Teams Bring in Diversity
A good team is usually composed of diverse individuals that come together for a particular cause. These people are able to discard their differences and listen to each other with an open mind. And since each person brings something different to the table, you are able to create a product that is truely unique.
2. A Fresh Pair of Eyes
Have you ever got stuck in a problem? Did you try looking at it from a different angle?
Nope. That is what individuals find the most difficult to do. They can’t seem to muster enough motivation to view the problem from another angle. However, with a team, you are bound to have people holding different opinions. Thus, their strong points will help you to look at the situation from a fresher perspective. This almost always results in resolving the issue.
3. Strong Support System
Do you know that best way to get over a bad day at work?
It is to grumble and complain about it with someone that is experiencing the same stuff. That is because it feels cathartic when you have someone that is going through the same situation. And it isn’t just about abusing the authorities or badmouthing a colleague. Rather it is about sharing this struggle with people who understand the process.
This is why teams work. Even when they fail, you have another person to shoulder the loss and to motivate you for the next project. It has been seen that teams are able to make faster comebacks than individuals. That is because they were able to support each other through the losses.
In the end, when you combine all these pros about teamwork you come to realize that:
Plus, the sense of accomplishment is greater and the celebrations certainly better. As you know what they say, ‘the more the merrier’. Additionally, history has shown us that it may have taken an individual to make a difference but their actions became a movement only when others joined in.
On that note we leave you with this thought-provoking quote:
“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”
-Helen Keller
