[Book Review] Standing Strong: How to Storm-Proof Your Life with God’s Timeless Truths

“Jesus says that if we want to withstand the inevitable storms, our lives must be based on something that cannot be moved—something that nothing in eternity can overturn. And friend, the only thing that will last forever is an intimate relationship with God. We may be drawn to things that promise to endure a long time, but nothing in this world will outlast the Lord Almighty.”
— “Standing Strong: How to Storm-Proof Your Life with God’s Timeless Truths” by Charles F. Stanley

Yet another stunning read, guaranteeing it a spot on the book reviews I seek to share with the dear readers. There is a lot to be learned from the wisdom present in this book!

In his book, Stanley talks in great detail about the key areas of conviction that serve to either make or break us as individuals. Who we are, what we stand for, the way in which we live—all these different aspects rest upon a particular foundation.

It is this foundation that matters. Without addressing the cracks in the foundation, everything that makes us who we are that rests on it will always be at risk.

Stanley puts forward the idea that the things that we truly, intrinsically believe in, these are what allow us to either stand strong, or lead to us falling apart.

In order to storm-proof one’s lives from the rigors of daily living and existential challenges, we must work on this foundation of belief, and fortify it to design a life that’s worth living, worth fighting for.

At the core of the book, the message is this—there is nothing more fortifying and life-giving than developing a deep relationship with God, and nothing more elevating than living true to the kind of life that lends itself towards becoming more like Christ.

By choosing to establish one’s life’s foundations on belief in the Almighty and faith in the teachings Scripture has to offer, standing strong and tall in the face of adversity will come easy.

Such convictions, among other values such as that of living a life of integrity where we hold ourselves accountable to God, of raising up other people to become leaders, and of visionary leadership—these are all reflected in the book by Stanley.
